This beautiful sunny morning has me reminiscing on the past five years. Five years with my girlfriend and (step) son. Before we met, my girlfriend and I were going to take a college program. We had lots going on and were about to go on two completely different paths. She was going to move away with her best friend and I was going to move out of the town. However, we both decided to put those plans on hold and take this HCAS course. We met and felt instantly drawn together. We always say that this was meant to be, that it was our fate and well, the rest is history. In the weeks following, I met our son, he wouldn’t leave my side, he wouldn’t let anyone come around us. He wanted to be around me all the time. Right then in that moment, having this little boy looking at me with his beautiful brown eyes and with all the love in the world, I knew it was meant to be and that I belonged with them.
Everyday I feel fortunate to be able to make many memories with my family and watch our son grow into a smart, courageous, loving, helpful and handsome boy. We wake up and do our everyday things, we still have our ups and downs, we laugh and cry but, in these moments, you realize how special this is. How special they are. I wouldn’t trade them for the world. He was and always will be my son, not my ‘step’ son. Very soon, I hope to make that official. I hope to adopt him, so I can truly be his Mom, alongside his beautiful Mommy. I love them both, to the moon and back!
